The MASFA programs expect to begin providing funds for the single-family loan and lease programs in Summer 2025. This page will be updated as more information becomes available, including how residents can apply for the program.

In the meantime, please review the information below to learn more about going solar.

Solar 101

The MassCEC Clean Energy Lives Here (CELH) website provides helpful information about solar energy. Below are links to resources that will help residents who would like to install solar.

Lease vs. Loan

As you begin exploring solar, an important step is deciding what type of ownership and financing structures are right for you.

The MASFA Coalition will offer both solar loan and solar lease programs for residential customers, and will hire a Decision Support provider to help residents choose which option is right for them. We encourage interested residents to learn more about incentives, ownership, and financing options for solar.

Consumer Protection Information

Please review the important information below to make informed decisions before entering into a solar contract.

Consumer Protection

Residents should be aware that organizations or salespeople may falsely claim to be associated with the MASFA program for their own financial benefit. All official partners of MASFA will be listed on the “About the MASFA Coalition” page(s).  The MASFA Coalition will never:

  • Offer free solar installations, roof replacements, or other such home improvements;
  • Engage in door-to-door sales tactics;
  • Directly contact you to encourage you to engage in MASFA programming; or
  • Pressure you into engaging with MASFA programming.

If you believe you have been targeted by a solar-related scam, contact the Consumer Advocacy and Response Division (CARD) at the Office of the Attorney General online or at (617) 727-8400. For a high-level overview of solar in Massachusetts and what you need to know as a consumer, please see this FAQ from the Office of the Attorney General.

You can also report concerns to the Federal Trade Commission (FTC). Details about how to do so can be found on the FTC’s website
