Massachusetts hospitals licensed to provide emergency services are required to submit data to the MA state trauma registry system for patients who receive medical care for trauma injuries. These licensed hospitals can apply to become a designated Trauma Center, which are designated points of entry for trauma care in Massachusetts.
The purpose of trauma data collection is for the improvement and support of statewide trauma systems, research, and delivery of quality patient care. The collection of reliable, comprehensive, and valid data enables the Department of Public Health (DPH), hospitals, and interdisciplinary teams to collaboratively assess the quality of care delivered to patients with the fundamental goal of quality improvement.
