This course is offered by the Office of Alcohol Testing (OAT) to currently designated OIC's from Massachusetts law enforcement agencies.

What you need

Please note this is a required training for newly designated OICs as well as recently reinstated OICs who haven't attended a training in the last three years.

Please submit all completed forms to the Office of Alcohol Testing. 

Dress Code: Department Uniform or Business casual

All classes are held at the Massachusetts State Police Crime Laboratory in Maynard.

Officer In Charge (OIC): a breath test operator responsible for maintaining the breath test device and breath test documentation. The Officer in Charge is the keeper of the breath test records for the instrument(s) assigned to his or her individual department or barracks. 

*We recommend that each department or barracks has two OICs.*

  • Liaison between the Agency/Department and OAT
  • BT Maintenance
  • Periodic Testing
  • Keeper of Records
  • Ordering Supplies
  • Monitoring status of BTOs 
  • Portable Breath Test Instruments (PBTs)
