The Details
What you need
Employers who pay wages for work done in Massachusetts must register with DUA.
Business registrations can be completed online by the business owner, staff, or third-party administrator (TPA).
You will need to provide:
- Legal Business Name
- Federal Employer Identification Number (FEIN)
- Legal Entity Type
- State and Date of Incorporation
- Social Security Number for any owner, corporate officer, partner, or member
- Principal business activity performed in Massachusetts
- Acquired business information
How to register
- Go to the Unemployment Service for Employers homepage. Do not log in.
- Select Register your Business from the homepage.
- Follow the prompts to provide the required information and complete the registration.
If you can’t complete the registration form in one session:
- Select Save and complete later.
- Enter your email address to receive a confirmation code.
- Confirmation codes are valid for 30 days. When it expires, you’ll need to start your registration again.
- When you’re ready, go back to the Unemployment Services for Employers homepage and select Continue saved registration.
- Enter the confirmation code to continue.

Look for updates from DUA
DUA will review your registration and email you with next steps. Most registrations are processed immediately.
Some businesses require additional review, including:
- 501(c)(3) employers who choose the reimbursable method of payment
- Religious employers who indicate they are subject to unemployment insurance tax
- Governmental employers
