What you need

There are 3 ways you can request a replacement of your Mass ID. The quickest and easiest way is to order your replacement online.  You will need to provide your:

  • Name
  • Date of birth
  • ID number or last 4 digits of your Social Security number
  • Payment
  • Email address

You can also order a replacement over the phone or in-person. See below for specific requirements for these options.

How to replace

When ordering your replacement online, you will need to provide your:

For people who are deaf or hard-of-hearing (in Massachusetts)

You will need your:

  • Name
  • Date of birth
  • ID number or last four digits of your Social Security number

Bring the completed application, along with all proper documentation and fees to an RMV Service Center or AAA branch (if you are a member).

You can pay by cash, check, money order, credit card, and debit card. Since payment methods vary by location, check what’s accepted at the site you will be visiting.

The RMV will mail your replacement Mass ID to your mailing address on record with 5-7 days.

If your ID will expire in less than a year, you can renew your Massachusetts ID instead of replacing it. 

You cannot cancel or return a duplicate ID after ordering.
