Brook Farm Historic Site Resource Management Plan

The Resource Management Plan for Brook Farm Historic Site is currently underway and will be released for public review and comment in early 2026.

Brook Farm Historic Site is located along the east bank of the Charles River in Boston’s West Roxbury neighborhood. This National Historic Landmark, 146 acres of rolling fields, woodlands, and wetlands, was acquired by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts in 1988. The site has been home to Indigenous peoples, colonial farms, a transcendentalist utopian community, Civil War camp, an orphanage, and a state park. In its role as a park, Brook Farm protects important cultural and natural resources, and provides visitors with access to protected open space within the Commonwealth’s largest city.

Public Input

Public input is an integral component of the RMP planning process. Meetings and comment pages provide a forum within the process to enhance communication and cooperation with park visitors, partners, and surrounding communities.

A virtual public meeting is being held July 31, 2025, to solicit public input regarding recreation, stewardship of resources, and park facilities.

Written public comment will be accepted through August 30, 2025. Comments may be submitted at the DCR Public Comments web page.

A second public meeting, to solicit input on the Draft Resource Management Plan for Brook Farm Historic Site, is anticipated in early 2026. Additional opportunities for comment will be made available at that time. Please check the DCR Public Meetings Information page for updates, as available.
