DCR Southeastern Massachusetts Walking Club

June, July & August 2026

The  DCR  Southeastern  Massachusetts  Adult  Walking  Club  meets  most  weekends  for social recreational walks. This club is open to people 16 years of age and older and there is no fee to join.  New walkers are always welcome. Come for one or come for all! 

Bring drinking   water,   a   snack,   and   dress   for   the   weather.   Hat   and   sunscreen   are recommended.  

Some  DCR  sites  charge  a  parking  fee  which  is  noted  in  the  hike description.  

Inclement  weather  will  cancel.

Nickerson State Park

Restrooms available at park entrance

Take a 2-mile stroll on Ruth Pond Trail. Enjoy this paved and dirt trail. Meet at Fisherman’s Landing; from the entrance station (3488 Main St., Brewster), drive into the park on Deer Park Road for two miles. Look for the Fisherman’s Landing sign on your left. (508) 896-3491.

Borderland State Park

Fee or pass required

A moderate, 3-mile hike out to Granite Hills Upper and Lower loops. These areas will be rooty, rocky, and hilly. Bring plenty of water. Meet at the Visitor Center: 259 Massapoag Ave., North Easton. (508) 238-6566.

Wompatuck State Park 

Restrooms available at park entrance

Join us for a 4-mile hike exploring the Park’s south end. Mix of trail and pavement. A little rocky and rooty. Meet at the Mount Blue Gate at the end of Union Street: proceed through the park main entrance at 204 Union St., Hingham. Continue on Union St. for two miles, until you reach the Mt. Blue Hills Reservation

A 3.5-mile, moderately graded Bugbee Path hike. Rocky but wide trails, finishing on a portion of Old 128 where we will see evidence of a beaver pond. Meets at the Houghton’s Pond Visitor Center: 860 Hillside Street, Milton. (857) 208-8498.

Walk the Cedar Trail loop, a mix of dirt and paved trails. About 2-miles. Meet at the Area 4 overflow lot: from the park entrance (3488 Main St., Brewster) continue following Deer Park Rd. In one mile, you will pass the park store. Continue another 0.5 miles. The lot will be on the left. (508) 896-3491.

Waquoit Bay NERR – South Cape Beach

Join a 2-mile hike on the Dead Neck Trail. Walk out behind the dunes and return on the beach. Views of Washburn Island and Vineyard Sound. Trail is loose sand. Bring water and sun protection. Meet at Bayberry Parking Lot: 569 Great Oak Rd., Mashpee. (339) 987-0273

Massasoit State Park

Restrooms available at park entrance

Explore old mill sites and cranberry bogs on a moderate 3.5-mile hike. Roots, rocks, and brief steep sections. Meet at the Big Bear Hole parking area. From the park entrance (1361 Middleboro Ave., Taunton) take the park road about 1.6 miles, continuing past Amie's playground (on your right). In ¼ mile, directly ahead, you'll see Big Bear Hole dam with its gazebo. The parking area entrance is on the right. Drop by the contact station at the entrance for assistance. (508) 822-7405.
