Attention extension filers – Deadline approaching

We are nearly a month away from the October 17th deadline for taxpayers on extension to file their personal income tax return and pay any outstanding tax. Some e-file options may still be available, and possibly some free or low cost tax professional advice for those who qualify. If payments are due with your filing, MassTaxConnect is the fastest way to pay. If you can’t pay all outstanding taxes, pay as much as you can. When you receive a bill, you can request a payment agreement

From the Tax Examiners – sick leave applications ended and non-filer notices

Friendly reminder that the COVID-19 Massachusetts Emergency Paid Sick Leave Program’s application for employer reimbursement ended on April 29, 2022. No new applications will be accepted.

Business non-filer notices were sent out in July. Those who receive a non-filer notice should check the amount due on the notice and file a return if in agreement. For businesses closing accounts or an entire business, log in to MassTaxConnect, choose “Close Tax Account” and choose the appropriate tax type(s). If no longer conducting business in MA, a return is still due for the time the business was operating. It’s important to note that even if closing and account, any overdue returns should be filed to avoid future bills or actions. For payments, use MassTaxConnect to pay or set up a payment agreement.

On the road with DOR – Greater Boston Stand Down for Veterans

Every year (except for some COVID setbacks), DOR staff from the Tax and Child Support divisions team up to attend the Greater Boston Stand Down event for local veterans. This year, the Stand Down returned to Government Center, and we were happy to be back. At the event, DOR had one-on-one time with veterans in need of services or assistance with tax or child support issues. Special thanks to the New England Center and Home for Veterans for having us. Here are a few more images from the event.

New! Changes to the online and paper application for abatement

We made some changes to the Application for Abatement process, both online and to the paper form. The new Form ABT will allow for faster processing. You can read about all the changes on the Hot Topics page.

Class is in session

DOR University has opened the doors of its lecture halls to bring you a series of Small Business workshop videos. These videos cover key information for business taxpayers related to employment taxes, sales and use tax, sole proprietorships, and much more.
