What is a redetermination?
A determination is the decision DUA makes about your original application for unemployment benefits. You will be notified if DUA discovers new information about your claim at a later date.
Redeterminations are issued if:
- There was an error in the original determination
- You earned wages that were not reported in your application, and those wages change your eligibility for benefits
- You received benefits based on false information you provided in your unemployment claim
Redeterminations can only be made within a year of the original determination in situations 1 and 2. In the third situation, the redeterminations can be made within 4 years of the original determination.
Next steps
If you get a notice that DUA received new information that may affect your eligibility:
- Follow the instructions in the notice to provide any additional information about your claim.
- If you do not want to share more information with DUA, you do not need to respond. DUA will make a decision based on the information they already have.
Changes to your benefits
If DUA notifies you that your eligibility may be affected based on new information, your benefits may change:
- If you are currently receiving benefits, you will continue to receive those until a decision is made.
- If the redetermination decision disqualifies you from receiving benefits, your payments will stop. You may need to repay DUA for any benefits you’ve already received.
- In some situations, you can apply for a waiver for unemployment benefit debt.
