State Land For Homes - Upcoming Parcels

The State Land For Homes initiative is expediting the availability of public land throughout the Commonwealth specifically for housing development as part of the Healey Driscoll Administration’s multi-dimensional approach to addressing the Commonwealth’s housing needs.

Sites Expected Spring/Summer 2026

39 Beach Rd., Salisbury – A ±0.59-acre vacant lot close to downtown Salisbury, expected to be sold to the Town of Salisbury Affordable Housing Trust Fund, for affordable housing purposes.

40 Oakland St., Wellesley - An underutilized 45-acre parcel including a 5-acre parking lot adjacent to the MassBay Community College Wellesley Campus.

0 Eastville Ave., Oak Bluffs - Vacant, wooded, L-shaped lot close to downtown Oak Bluffs and the Martha's Vineyard Hospital.

Housing Development Pipeline

Below are projects in the pipeline which are anticipated to be made available for future development opportunities in 2026 and beyond.

24 Cherry St., Wenham - A former Department of Mental Health group home that is ±2,160 SF on 0.79 acres, expected to be made available to developers in late 2026.

220 Old Common Rd., Lancaster  - Bucolic campus offers opportunity for thoughtful housing development that contributes to Commonwealth housing stock and blends with the surrounding community.

52 Obery Street, Plymouth - A ±2.5-acre surplus parking lot just off Route 3 and proximate to Plymouth North High School, Plymouth Public Library, and Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital. A ten-minute drive to Plymouth Harbor, Long Beach, and the Kingston Commuter Rail Station.

482-542 Haverhill Street, Rowley - The parcel consists of ±2.5± acres of land close to I-95 and Route 1 in Rowley.  The vacant wooded parcel neighbors a residential neighborhood and abuts 104 acres of town-owned conservation land. 

0 Prospect Street, Sherborn - Vacant, ±7.9-acre wooded lot with farmland views in a semi-rural community less than 2 miles from the Framingham Commuter Rail. 

323 Mill St., New Bedford - Approximately 0.7 acres is occupied by the Bristol County Sheriff's Office. Relocation of the current use, storage/maintenance of files, is required before the property is declared surplus. 

Lindemann-Hurley Redevelopment- Significant brutalist site in Downtown Boston available for redevelopment through public-private partnership. The Department of Mental Health will continue to operate residential treatment programs onsite.

MCI-Concord - Massachusetts' oldest men's correctional facility until it closed in June 2024, the site is undergoing an extensive planning and community engagement process to determine the future use and approach to disposition. It is anticipated the future of the site will accommodate substantial new housing along with other uses.
