For patients
If you get care at a former Steward hospital facility that has transferred to a new operator, there is likely no need to make changes to your medical care. Your appointments, screenings, treatments, and therapies should continue to occur as usual. If there are any changes, your provider should be in touch directly with you to make any adjustments to your appointments. If you have any questions about your care, please contact your provider.
If you received care at Carney Hospital or Nashoba Valley Medical Center, these hospitals closed August 31, 2024, so you may need to make some changes to your health care providers and processes. You should be aware that the medical office buildings, located on the campuses of these hospitals will continue to be open. Many of the providers who are affiliated with these hospitals and who have offices within this building, continue to see patients in these offices. In addition, some additional providers and services have relocated or plan to relocate to the medical office buildings.
Carney and Nashoba Valley both closed August 31, 2024

File a complaint
Do you have concerns about care at a Massachusetts hospital? File a complaint with the Department of Public Health.
Emergency/urgent care
If you are experiencing a health care emergency, dial 911.
You can use the urgent care and retail clinics map to find urgent care locations in your community that offer specific services, service times, or accept their insurance type.
The emergency departments at the now-closed Carney Hospital and Nashoba Valley Medical Center are no longer open. Patients who had received care at the former Steward hospitals that have transitioned to new operators can go to their usual EDs if they need the care emergency-level care.
EDs across the state continue to be very busy, and long waits are common. Patients experiencing illness or injuries who do not require the level of care provided in the ED, should consider going to an urgent care center. Learn more about where to go for medical care when you are sick or hurt.
Prescriptions
Prescriptions come from physicians or other health care providers. You should be able to continue any prescriptions by contacting your provider’s office and getting your medications through your usual pharmacy.
Medical records
If you are in need of your hospital medical records, you will still be able to access them from your online portal and from all Steward hospital locations. Your physicians will be able to provide you with your physician records. Please contact your provider directly for your records.
