East Beach Voluntary Buy-Out Pilot Program (FY25)
Westport's East Beach is the most climate-vulnerable stretch of coastline on Buzzards Bay. Host to 83 privately-owned seasonal mobile-home lots, maintenance and repair of the road and utilities on this barrier beach is becoming increasingly difficult following coastal storms. Through this Pilot Buy-Out Program, Westport purchased and converted approximately 10% of these lots to natural open space, providing a model for future Buy-outs on this beach and in other communities facing similar challenges.
