Located on Route 20 in the Town of Russell, the State Police Russell barracks provides coverage for eleven cities and towns, spanning almost 365 square miles. In nine of these towns, troopers from the barracks act as the primary law enforcement agency. The patrol area is intersected by eleven state highways, emphasizing the breadth of their jurisdiction. Furthermore, the Russell Barracks is charged with the security of Cobble Mountain and Borden Brook reservoirs, as well as overseeing the Knightville and Littleville Dams. Additionally, troopers from SP Russell play a vital role in ensuring the security and enforcing laws at Westfield State University and Barnes Airport, which is the base for the 104th Tactical Fighter Group.
