Learn about jury duty guidelines for doctors at residences for people with disabilities

Find out whether residents at your facility are eligible for jury duty and how to request disqualification if they aren't.

Resident eligibility

Determine whether some or all of the residents at your facility are ineligible for jury service using the guidelines in Massachusetts General Law, Chapter 234A, section 4:

A person shall be capable of rendering satisfactory juror service if such person is able to perform a sedentary job requiring close attention for six hours per day, with short work breaks in the morning and afternoon sessions, for three consecutive business days.

Reporting a disqualification

If, in your professional opinion, any of the residents are ineligible for jury service, please contact the Office of Jury Commissioner (OJC) Legal Department at (617) 422-5860 and ask for assistance with a nursing facility disqualification.
