MVDA Licensing Requirements
Licensing Requirements: Motor Vehicle Damage Appraiser
- A work experience letter from a licensed Massachusetts appraiser with whom you have worked for a period of at least three (3) months. This letter must be signed by the appraiser and his seal affixed.
- A copy of certification received from a Board approved damage appraiser course. PLEASE NOTE: Two years practical work experience writing appraisals, may be substituted for the required course work.
- If you have had any convictions, a transcript from the courts identifying the offense(s) and a letter of explanation should be included.
- A completed copy of the state specific Application for Licensure must be submitted to the NIPR warehouse when submitting your application online. The Division will NOT allow you to schedule the Part 1 exam until all required documents, including this state specific application, are received.
- A complete application submitted through NIPR through their licensing portal. A fee of $100.00 will be collected electronically at the time of application through NIPR.
You will be notified by the Auto Damage Appraiser Licensing Board when your application has been reviewed and you are approved to schedule your Part 1 exam through our exam vendor, Prometric. You may contact them online at prometric or call 800-741-9380 to schedule your written examination. After successfully completing your written examination, you MUST email your results to MVDA.mailbox@mass.gov in order to be scheduled for the Part II exam. The Division does not receive automatic notice of Part I passing score reports, it is the responsibility of the applicant to provide those to the Division.
