Who can apply
To apply for a SafetyWorks Training Grant, your organization must:
- Be a Massachusetts employer
- Be in good standing in accordance with the Department of Revenue
- Be covered by the Massachusetts Workers' Compensation Act (M.G.L. c. 152)
- Meet the other requirements of the SafetyWorks Training Grant program
How the grant process works
During an open application period, eligible employers can apply online and submit a training proposal to the DIA Office of Safety.

Wait for a decision
The DIA Office of Safety reviews your application and tells you whether your grant is approved.

Sign your grant contract
If your grant is approved, all parties must sign the contract before training can begin.

Complete your approved training
Training must be in person and provided by your approved training provider.

Request reimbursement
Submit your training costs within 2 weeks after completing each training class.
The DIA Office of Safety may require you to attend an online invoice reimbursement meeting to help process outstanding invoices.

- Training period: July 1, 2026 to June 30, 2027
- Invoice deadline: July 15, 2027

What training can the grant pay for?
The grant supports in-person, hands-on safety training, including:
- Emergency response & first aid
- Workplace violence prevention & de-escalation
- Fire, electrical & hazard safety
- Fall protection & working at heights
- Equipment operation & material handling
- Hazardous materials & environmental safety
- Confined space & rescue
- Job-specific safety training
- Regulatory and certification training
Have a different safety training in mind? You can propose additional topics for approval.
Training requirements
Training must:
- Be live and in person
- Be provided by an approved Massachusetts-based, licensed trainer
- Focus on improving workplace safety and health
- Be approved before training begins
What the grant does not cover
The grant does not pay for:
- Training completed before the grant contract is approved and signed
- Online or self-paced training
- Payroll, stipends, or travel
- Administrative or overhead costs
- Training topics previously funded by the program
- Training for certain public sector employees, including police officers, firefighters, and federal employees
