What you need

To amend your vehicle registration for your car or trailer, you must:

  1. Go to your insurance agent. Complete an application for amendment of registration (RMV-3 form), with the changes. Your insurance agent must stamp and sign the RMV-3.
  2. Include the license numbers and dates of birth for all owners listed on the registration.
  3. Indicate the change in applicable space on RMV-3.
  4. After verifying the information, all owners must sign the RMV-3.

How to amend

Send the completed RMV-3 form and the required fee (check or money order payable to MassDOT) to the address below.

Your amended vehicle registration will be mailed to the address on record.

Bring the completed RMV-3 form and the required fee to an RMV Service Center.

You can pay by cash, check, money order, credit card, and debit card. Since payment methods vary by location, check what’s accepted at the site you will be visiting.

If you only need to change your address, complete the change of address transaction online. If you want a new registration that reflects your new address, you can request a duplicate registration online as well.
