Next steps

  1. Volunteer/Stewardship Agreement

Some projects require a Volunteer/Stewardship Agreement Form. The VSA serves as an agreement between DCR and the party undertaking the approved volunteer activity and serves as DCR's approval.

    Projects that require a VSA

    • Long term or ongoing cleanups
    • Cleanups taking place across multiple properties
    • Maintenance including painting, repairs, or planting trees and flowers in new or existing gardens.
    • Invasive plant removals
  2. Corporate Groups

Corporate groups that are interested in volunteering on DCR property must at least 14 days prior to the event provide a Certificate of General Liability Insurance with a minimum of $1 million in liability coverage that:

    • Names the Commonwealth of Massachusetts and the Department of Conservation and Recreation as an additional insured,
    • Lists the date(s) of the event or activity, and
    • Identifies the location(s) of the event or activity.

If you have any questions, please contact Matthew Perry at matthew.s.perry1@mass.gov.

  3. Eagle Scout Projects

Interested in completing your Eagle Scout project at a DCR property? Fill out our project request form to start the process.

  4. DCR Trails

Any trail work that takes place on DCR land must be formally approved by DCR staff. This is accomplished by submitting a completed Trail Proposal Form to DCR.

  5. What to Bring

While volunteering with DCR you will be out in nature for several hours. It is important to be prepared. Supplies for volunteer projects will be provided by the park, but it is a good idea to consider bringing the following:

    • Water bottle
    • Snacks
    • Sunscreen, sunglasses, a hat, and other sun protection
    • Bug spray
    • Gloves
    • Comfortable clothing that you don’t mind getting dirty
    • Close toed shoes
