Brownfields, Waste Sites and Oil Spills

MassDEP works with communities to identify and fund restoration projects across the state under the Natural Resource Damages Program.

We also help cities and towns across the state to prepare for oil spills by placing equipment trailers in local communities and training train local officials to protect sensitive areas.

Massachusetts also provides technical assistance to help municipalities navigate through the Brownfields redevelopment process.

Additional Resources

Recycling and Waste Reduction

MassDEP has eight Municipal Assistance Coordinators (MACs) who provide technical assistance on waste reduction and recycling to cities and towns.

We also provide grants and financial assistance as well as information and tools to support municipal recycling and waste reduction efforts.
