Go Green on Black Friday Hikes

On Friday, November 29, 2024, join Park Interpretive staff for free, family friendly guided hikes across the state

Go Green at the following locations!

Blackstone River and Canal Heritage State Park, Blackstone, MA 10:00am-12:00pm

Join us for a two mile walk along the canal! The hike has mild inclines and paved roads. Free parking. Meet at the Canal St. lot, 93 Canal Street, Blackstone, MA. For ages 12 and up. Blue Hills Reservation, Milton, MA, 10:00am-12:00pm

Skip the madness at the malls and join us for a fun and informative hike in the Blue Hills. This 3-mile moderate hike is the perfect way to burn off that turkey and enjoy the beauty of nature, something we can all be thankful for. Meet at the Houghton’s Pond Visitor Center. Inclement weather may cancel. For ages 8 and up. Be prepared for cold weather, dress in layers. Wear sturdy shoes and bring water and a snack if you wish.

Borderland State Park, North Easton, MA 11:00am-1:30pm

Join the Park staff for a moderate paced 5-mile hike on Black Friday. Hike will be mostly flat along the Pond Walk trail and Bob's trail. Meet at the Visitor Center. For ages 8 and up. We will take breaks along the way. Dress for the weather, bring water and appropriate footwear. Great Falls Discovery Center, Turners Falls, MA, 1:00-2:30pm

Forget shopping—let’s connect with nature and local history instead! Enjoy the late autumn splendor and come join us for a leisurely walk along the Canalside Rail Trail in Turners Falls, guided by a DCR interpreter. This walk is approximately 3 miles long, on a level paved surface making for an easy stroll appropriate for adults and children ages 8 and up. Be prepared for cold weather, dress in layers. Wear sturdy shoes and bring water and a snack if you wish. The walk will begin at the front entrance to the Great Falls Discovery Center. Children must be accompanied by an adult. Lawrence Heritage State Park, Lawrence, MA 10:00am-12:00pm

Forget shopping—let’s connect with nature instead! Come join us for a leisurely walk along the Merrimack River at Riverside State Park in Lawrence. This walk is approximately 1.5 miles long and is appropriate for adults and children ages 8 and up. Be prepared for cold weather and dress in layers. Wear sturdy shoes and bring water and a snack if you wish. The walk will begin at the Abe Bashara Boathouse parking lot located at 1 Eaton Street in Lawrence. Children must be accompanied by an adult. Inclement weather or icy trail conditions will cancel. Call (978)794-1655 for more information.

Waquoit Bay National, Estuarine Research Reserve, East Falmouth, MA 10:00am- 12:00pm

Join us for a 2.8 mile hike along the Quashnet River. The first section of the trail is wide and flat and once we cross the river the trail becomes narrow with some hills. Note: no restroom facilities on site - please plan accordingly. Meet at the trail head for Quashnet River on Martin Road in Falmouth. Traveling south on Route 28, turn right on Martin Road. In about 500 feet, the parking area is on your right. Best for ages 8 years and older.  Be prepared for cold weather, dress in layers. Wear sturdy shoes and bring water and a snack if you wish.
