Land Protection & Management

Some of the most important components of conserving the state's rare and common biodiversity are habitat protection and management.

MassWildlife's land protection and habitat restoration programs promote the long-term viability of native species and natural communities across the state. In Massachusetts, many organizations and agencies are committed to protecting land as open space. We provide information to help planning for biodiversity-related land protection. Land protection by itself is not enough for long-term conservation in Massachusetts. Some species and community types need direct intervention to remove invasives or restore and improve habitats.
