Free Programs for Adults Aged 60+
- Senior Nutrition Program - The Senior Nutrition Program provides older adults with healthy and nutritious home-delivered and community group meals at senior centers, Councils on Aging, community centers, faith-based organizations, senior housing, and other locations.
- Senior Parking Pass - Massachusetts residents aged 62 or older are eligible for a discounted lifetime parking pass. This pass covers the cost of parking at most state parks.
- Car Free Seniors - Free fare on all MBTA services for Massachusetts residents age 75 and older who no longer drive.
- Senior Centers (Councils on Aging): Municipal entities that provide support, local outreach, social and health services, advocacy, and resources to older adults, their families, and caregivers
- Options Counselling: An Options Counselor provides unbiased information to help people find long-term personal care, transportation services, and other resources to assist in the aging process.
- Discounted Fishing/Hunting/Trapping Licenses for Older Adults: MassWildlife offers discounted fishing/ hunting/ trapping licenses to residents aged 65-69 and free licenses to those residents aged 70 and older.
- Massachusetts Peer Recovery Support Centers (PRSC): Free, accessible, peer-led spaces that provide individuals in recovery from substance use, as well as families and loved ones affected by addiction, the opportunity to both offer and receive support in their community environment.
- Traffic Safety Resources for Older Road Users: This website provides links to helpful information about road safety for older drivers and road users.
- Massachusetts ID card: Drivers who voluntarily surrender their driver's licenses are eligible for a free Massachusetts ID card. To surrender your driver's license, contact the Medical Affairs division of the RMV at (857) 368-8020.
- Citizenship for New Americans Program (CNAP): The Citizenship for New Americans Program (CNAP) assists lawful permanent residents (LPRs) living in Massachusetts in becoming U.S. citizens.
- Program to Enhance Elder Refugee Services (PEERS): Naturalization guidance, caregiver resources, intergenerational programs, and employment opportunities.
- Aging with Intellectual and Developmental Disability Trainings: These webinars are designed to introduce topics associated with aging and Intellectual and Developmental Disability (IDD), as well as provide additional resources as needed.
- Naloxone Program Locator: Naloxone programs help people who use drugs by providing essential resources such as safe spaces, food, and access to communication.
- Access to Recovery (ATR): ART is a recovery-based program for individuals who are in early recovery program for individuals recovering from a substance use disorder.
- MA Substance Use Helpline: HelplineMA.org is a free, 24/7, and confidential support resource that connects individuals with substance use treatment, harm reduction, and recovery services.
- Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner (SANE) Program: No-cost, trauma-informed, forensic nursing services for patients of all ages and genders who have been sexually assaulted.
- 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline : 988 is a free, confidential service available 24/7. The service provides support to people who are experiencing emotional distress or suicidal thoughts. The services is available by phone, text, or chat and will provide a warm handoff to callers requiring additional support to other services in MA on the crisis continuum.
- 1-800-QUIT-NOW: Free and confidential one-on-one coaching to help you quit tobacco or nicotine — whether cigarettes, e-cigarettes/vapes, chew, or other tobacco or nicotine products
- The MA & RI Poison Center: Provides assistance and expertise in the medical diagnosis, management and prevention of poisonings.
Free Programs for Eligible Older Adults
- Family Caregiver Support Program: This program connects you with a Caregiver Specialist who provides free information, useful tips and resources, and other means of support to family caregivers. The program is free for non-paid caregivers or adult family members, age 18+ who care for individuals age 60+ or any individual living with Alzheimer’s disease or related dementia. The program also supports Grandparents and other relatives age 55+ who care for children under the age of 18 or an adult with a disability ages 18-59.
- Behavioral Health Outreach for Aging Populations – This program provides behavioral health clinical support for older adults and is free for older adults aged 60+ with symptoms or challenges related to behavioral or mental health.
- Senior Farmers Market Nutrition Program – The program provides eligible low-income older adults with a seasonal coupon booklet valued at $25 for the 2026 season.
- Adult Day Health: Day Services are provided during the day at a program site in the community and Day program that often include personal care services, skilled services such as nursing, as well as community living skill development and self-management skill development services to assist individuals in maintaining their independence.
- Serving the Health Insurance Needs of Everyone (SHINE) Program: The SHINE Program provides free health insurance information, counseling, and assistance for people who are eligible for Medicare and their caregivers.
- Medicare Savings Program: The Medicare Savings Program (MSP) helps individuals with limited income pay for their Medicare costs including premiums, deductibles, and coinsurance. If your income is at or below 225% of the Federal Poverty Level, you may qualify for an MSP.
- MassHealth: MassHealth provides free or low-cost health coverage to eligible Massachusetts residents, including older adults, people with disabilities, families, and individuals with limited income. Certain MassHealth programs, such as Senior Care Options (SCO), are specifically designed for older adults age 65+. SCO is a program for individuals who qualify for both MassHealth and Medicare and provides coordinated care through a single health plan.
Free Programs for Older Adults Living with a Disability
- Assistive Technology: The Assistive Technology (AT) program provides adaptive devices and technical consulting to consumers and employers to aid those who are legally blind in daily activities, improving their independence and functionality in home, classroom, and workplace settings.
- Orientation and Mobility: A specialized rehabilitation service provided to help people who are legally blind travel safely, independently, and efficiently in both indoor and outdoor environments.
- Rehabilitation Teaching (Vision Rehabilitation Therapy): A specialized educational service provided to help individuals with vision impairments perform daily living tasks safely and independently in any environment.
- Family Support Centers: A hub for a wide range of general family support services and activities to families of children and adults living at home who are eligible for Department of Developmental Services (DDS) services. These services include information and referral, navigation, family training, support groups, and social/recreational activities.
- Aging with Intellectual and Developmental Disability - Clinical Consultations: A consultative service dedicated to the evaluation of aging adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
- Equipment Distribution Program (MassEDP): MassEDP provides free or low-cost telephone communication equipment to residents of Massachusetts with a permanent disability for use in both emergency and on-emergency situations.
Free Programs for Older Veterans
- Housing, Equity, Resilience & Outreach Services (HEROS): Partners with organizations and agencies to support safe, stable, affordable, and quality housing opportunities for veterans and their families.
- Veteran Employment, Education & Training Services (VEETS): Provides meaningful connections for veterans and their families to employment, training, and educational opportunities for veterans and their families.
- Chapter 115 Financial Assistance: Financial, medical, and dental assistance to veterans and their dependents based on financial need, household size, and income from all sources.
- Veteran's Chapter 115 Annuity Program: Massachusetts offers an annual annuity payment of $2,500, paid in one installment each August.
- Massachusetts Veteran Memorial Cemeteries: Massachusetts operates two state veterans’ cemeteries located in Agawam and Winchendon.
- Independent Living for Disabled Veterans: The Chelsea Domiciliary provides independent, affordable housing and community support for eligible veterans.
- Long-Term Care for Senior Veterans : EOVS operates two long-term care facilities serving primarily veterans over age 60. Resident rates at both Chelsea and Holyoke are significantly reduced compared to private facilities. These facilities are for veterans who require assisted living or long-term care services.
