WorkShare Program

WorkShare is designed to help employers retain talent in lieu of layoffs, and allows workers to collect partial unemployment insurance health insurance and benefits.

The WorkShare Program is administered by the Department of Unemployment Assistance.

Employer Eligibility

To qualify, you must be a Massachusetts employer with up-to-date unemployment contributions, a positive reserve balance, and filed wage reports. Employees must be permanent full-time or part-time (seasonal and temporary workers are ineligible). Your WorkShare plan must:

  • Reduce hours by 10% - 60%
  • Include at least two employees
  • Last no more than 52 weeks
  • Maintain health and retirement benefits
