Need to file a complaint against a business?

Contact the Office of the Attorney General to file a consumer complaint if you are having a problem with a business and need help to resolve that problem.

Call the Attorney General’s Consumer Hotline at 617-727-8400, from 8 AM to 4 PM, Monday through Friday.

For civil legal matters contact the Massachusetts Bar Association Lawyer Referral Service at 617-654-0400 or 866-627-7577.

For free attorneys, contact the Volunteer Lawyers Project Eastern Region Legal Intake at 617-603-1700.

Contractor or homeowner looking for help?

Our Consumer Hotline phone service hours are now Monday and Wednesday from 9 AM to 3 PM. Call us at 617-973-8787. If you have a question outside these hours, please email consumer@mass.gov.

In-person service for contractors is available Monday-Friday, 9:30 AM to 3:30 PM at One Federal Street, Boston (except on holidays).

The MA Contractor Hub is a one-stop platform for consumers and contractors. This new and improved service hub is mobile-friendly and easy to use. Using the Hub:

  • Contractors can apply for, renew, and update Home Improvement Contractor registrations, generate supplemental registration cards, and pay a balance. Read the Contractor Guide for the MA Contractor Hub to learn how to use the system.
  • Homeowners can look up contractor registrations and disciplinary history, apply for arbitration and the Guaranty Fund, and file complaints. Read the Homeowner Guide for the MA Contractor Hub to learn how to use the system.

Need the status of a Construction Supervisor License (CSL) or Hoisting License?

Contact the Division of Occupational Licensure (DOL) at 617-727-3074, TTY 617-727-2099, Monday-Friday, 9 AM - 4 PM.

Each of DOL's 26 boards like massage therapy, real estate, and plumbing have contact information available online.

Questions about banks or credit unions?

Call the Division of Banks (DOB) Monday through Friday 9 AM - 4 PM at 617-956-1500, Toll-Free 800-495-BANK (2265), TDD 617-956-1577 (use this number if you are hearing impaired.)

If you have a problem with a bank, credit union, or financial product or service in Massachusetts, you may submit a complaint with the Division of Banks (DOB).

Questions about insurance?

Call the Division of Insurance (DOI) Monday to Friday 8:45 AM - 5 PM at (617) 521-7794, Toll Free 877-563-4467 or email CSSComplaints@mass.gov.   

If you have an insurance-related problem, you may submit a complaint to the Division of Insurance.

If you need to contact the Producer Licensing Department call 617-521-7794 (opt for line #3) or email producerupdate.mailbox@mass.gov.
