Overview

Traumatic brain injury (TBI) is a serious public health problem. A TBI is caused when a person's head is hit, jolted, or penetrated in a way that disrupts the normal function of their brain.

The Bureau of Community Health Prevention collects and publishes data on TBIs. There are 2 types of reports on this page:

• Data briefs on sports-related TBIs among middle school & high school students
• Reports on TBIs in Massachusetts, including trends by gender, age, and cause (issued yearly from 2012-2015)
