2026 April Vacation Week Free Family-Friendly Programs

April 18 - April 26, 2026

April School Vacation Week is calling—and there’s no better time to get outside and explore with DCR! Across Massachusetts, our parks are bursting with free, family-friendly programs designed to spark curiosity, creativity, and connection to the outdoors. Join a ranger for a birding walk at Belle Isle Marsh or Halibut Point, search for harbor seals along the coast, or step into history with hands-on colonial activities and living history programs. Get creative with Earth Day murals at Walden Pond, meet live frogs and salamanders, try a nature scavenger hunt, or learn something new through interactive programs like gardening, wildlife tracking, and even building your own water turbine.

Looking for something more flexible? Many locations offer self-guided adventures all week long—from StoryWalks® along scenic trails to treasure hunts, art exhibits, and discovery stations you can explore at your own pace. Be sure to stop by one of DCR’s Visitor Centers to dive deeper into the stories of each park, connect with staff, and find even more ways to make the most of your visit. And don’t miss the First Peoples First Stewards Children’s Libraries, available at select locations across the state, where families can relax, read, and learn through books that share Indigenous history, culture, and lived experiences—highlighting the deep and enduring connections between people and the lands we steward together.

Whether you’re hiking, crafting, learning, or simply enjoying fresh air with family and friends, there’s something happening every day, in every region, to make this April vacation unforgettable.
