Find programs and support from organizations in Massachusetts and nationally that are designed to serve veterans, active military members, and their families.

Veterans, often face incredible challenges during their time of service, including exposure to trauma, continued stress, and the transition back to civilian life. It is common for veterans to experience mental health challenges like post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), depression, anxiety, trouble sleeping, substance use disorder, and suicidal ideation. 

Reaching out for help can feel hard, but you are not alone. There are resources in Massachusetts ready to help veterans like you and support can help.

Call, text, or chat the Veterans’ Crisis Line

If you need help right away or are in crisis, call 988 and press 1 to get immediate help or to find a therapist or support group.

You can also text 838255 or chat online at veteranscrisisline.net/get-help-now/chat.

The phone, text, and chat services will also work with active military members. Crisis feels different for everybody and can arise from a wide range of situations before, during, or after military service.

The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) has an online tool for finding VA locations and providers.

You can also use the VA REACH self-assessment tool to help you determine what resources might be right for you.

Explore your benefits in Massachusetts

The Executive Office of Veterans Services offers programs and assistance to veterans and their families. To get started, check your benefit eligibility

Visit Mass Vets Advisor to find your veterans' service officer and learn about resources offered in Massachusetts, including counseling and mental health benefits.

Connect to peer support

The Statewide Advocate for Veterans’ Empowerment (SAVE) program is a peer outreach program that connects veterans with peers to help them access benefits, services, and support for their overall mental health. SAVE acts as a liaison between veterans and their families and the various agencies within the federal and state governments.
