On-Campus Activity Guide
We understand that there are communities in Massachusetts where walking, biking, and rolling to school is challenging. However, there are many other aspects of the Safe Routes to School Program that all schools in Massachusetts can take advantage of! Our On-Campus Activity Guide lists the tools and services we offer that can be utilized while on school grounds.
Park, Walk, & Roll
A Park, Walk, & Roll is an excellent option for students who are unable to walk and roll from their home all the way to school. This satellite parking lot ¼ to ½ mile from school allows some time for outdoor physical activity and also broadens the congestion radius around schools. This is a great way to involve families before and after school and to foster a sense of community while practicing safe walking, biking, and rolling habits.
Walking School Buses & Bike Trains
Walking school buses (WSB) and bike trains are fun, social, physically active, and environmentally friendly forms of transportation. By evaluating and assessing where students live and walk, SRTS can help determine student drop-off and pick-up points along a designated route to school that is under complete supervision of parents/guardians or school staff.
WSB Kits contain:
- Walking School Bus Guide
- Stencil
- 2 cans of spray chalk
- 4 adult safety vests
Why Walk, Bike, and Roll?
Walk Across America and Massachusetts
The Walk Across America and Walk Across Massachusetts kits allow students to learn about geography while calculating their total distance traveled over the course of a week, month, or whole school year. Maps come in two versions, PDF and a poster-size print out.
