The Massachusetts Educational Financing Authority (MEFA) Prepaid Tuition Waiver Program is for students participating in MEFA's U.Plan Prepaid Tuition Program. It allows a participating public institution of higher education to waive the amount of tuition that would otherwise be due if the tuition exceeds the amount received as a credit through the MEFA Prepaid Tuition Program.

Who Is Eligible?

Any student admitted to a particular public institution of higher education that is an owner or a qualifying beneficiary of a MEFA Prepaid Tuition Program.

Eligible Institutions

An institution is eligible if it is within the system of public higher education under section 5 Chapter 15A of the General Laws, and participates in the MEFA Prepaid Tuition Program.

Award Amounts

The portion of tuition that would otherwise be due is waived if the tuition charged by the institution exceeds the amount received as tuition credit in direct proportion to the student's participation in the MEFA Prepaid Tuition Program.

Note: Beginning with the fall 2016-2017 academic year, the University of Massachusetts will restructure tuition and fees on their campuses. The restructuring of student charges will have no impact on the value of tuition waivers, which will now be identified as tuition “credits.”

Visit the University of Massachusetts website for more information on Tuition Retention.
