MassMobility: MassMobility is an information sharing initiative of EOHHS that helps seniors, individuals with disabilities, veterans, low-income commuters, and others access transportation. Searchable Databases
- Ride Match: Massachusetts Ride Match is an on-line, searchable database of public, private, and accessible transportation options in Massachusetts. Find providers by either entering a city/town, or your starting and destination addresses (including day, time, trip purpose and special needs).
- Google Transit Google Transit allows you to view public transportation trip options by integrating stop, route, and schedule information into Google Maps. Enter your starting and destination address to get directions and then narrow options by date, transit mode, and route preferences. Enlarging maps will show transit stops, and paths of travel.
Public Transportation
- Public Transportation: In Massachusetts, MBTA and 15 Regional Transit Authorities (RTAs) provide fixed route transportation to the public, and paratransit services to eligible riders in their service areas.
- TAP/TAP Charlie Card : The Statewide TAP (Transportation Access Pass) is an ID card that entitles eligible seniors and individuals with disabilities to half price fares on most fixed route public transportation across the state.
- Travel Training: Travel instruction is a professional activity (for groups and individuals) that teaches seniors, people with disabilities, and others how to use public transportation.
- MCB Orientation & Mobility Training: Massachusetts Commission for the Blind (MCB) offers with Orientation and Mobility Training (including individualized travel training) conducted by Certified Orientation and Mobility Specialists to for eligible persons with visual impairments.
- Paratransit/The Ride(Hyperlink to MassMobility revised Public Transportation Section): Transit Authorities provide shared ride, origin-to-destination paratransit services for individuals with disabilities determined eligible under the ADA (the Americans with Disabilities Act).
- The Ride’s On-Demand Pilot Paratransit Program: MBTA is running a pilot program with ridesharing companies Uber, Lyft, and Curb to offer on-demand transit service to RIDE customers who can book same-day rides from their smart phones.
MRC Services include driving assessment, training and modifications
MRC consumers who are eligible for Vocational Rehabilitation (VR) services may be referred for driving-related evaluations and resources. Available services vary depending upon eligibility, financial need, and/or funding.
- Accessible Vehicle Inspection & Modifications: Thinking about modifying your vehicle? MRC’s Rehabilitation Technology (RT) specialists provide advice and suggestions concerning vehicle inspections and modifications. These evaluation services are individualized based upon consumer needs. Talk to your VR Counselor for details.
- Driving Assessments & Training: Will driving assist you in achieving your employment goal? Eligible MRC consumers may be referred to a provider for driving evaluations and training. Discuss this with your VR Counselor.

Transition Students & Transportation
Transition Aged Youth & Planning for Transportation Independence: Learning how to drive and/or use community transportation-and self-manage transportation-while still in school will better prepare students for success after transition.

Other MA Driving Resources
- Drivers with Disabilities: Massachusetts offers programs to support individuals with disabilities such as adaptive driving programs, driving schools and driving assessment programs.
- Older Drivers: Vision screening, safety workshops, and driving evaluation programs are offered in the Commonwealth.
- Car Sharing: Car sharing is an option for people who need to drive sometimes, but not regularly enough to justify owning a car; Cars are rented by the hour or by the day.
- Learners Permit Exam Accommodations: – The Registry of Motor Vehicles (RMV) will accommodate individuals with cognitive or physical disabilities which prevent them from taking a standard learner’s permit exam on a computer. Requests for an alternative extended time, paper, or oral exam will be considered if written documentation concerning the disability is submitted to RMV.
- Disability Placard or License Plate: RMV issues disability license places and placards to qualified Massachusetts residents who meet eligibility requirements. Applications require that a health care provide verify the driver’s disability status.
