Driving and other violations

The RMV has the authority, in accordance with Massachusetts General Laws and the Code of Massachusetts Regulations, to suspend/revoke your learner's permit or driver's license/right to operate. The RMV can also suspend/revoke your vehicle registration.

Reasons for suspension/revocation may or may not include violations involving a motor vehicle. These suspensions/revocations may affect your learner's permit, driver's license/right to operate, and/or registration. Suspension periods vary in length, dependent upon the statutory requirements governing the violation. Indefinite suspensions are those that remain on a learner's permit, driver's license/right to operate, and/or registration until you meet the necessary requirements to release the suspension.

Certain serious offenses may result in a lifetime suspension.
