Route 9 Corridor Improvement Project

This project includes full reconstruction of about 2¼ miles of Route 9 in Hadley, from Middle Street (Rt. 47) to North/South Maple Street.

Route 9 is the main connection between Northampton, Hadley, and Amherst. This road, and the multimodal transportation network around it, will play a large role in shaping the future growth of the communities it connects and runs through.

We aim to improve local and regional mobility, safety and accessibility, pedestrian, bicycle, and transit amenities, and vehicular operations and congestion on this important regional and local link.

Our proposed design includes full reconstruction of the roadway with 3 vehicle lanes, shared-use paths on both sides, new bus shelters and bus stop pull offs, and improved drainage. The project also includes a study of transit needs and alternatives for the PVTA's B43 bus route.
