This dashboard focuses on Schedule II Opioid Prescriptions in Massachusetts. Schedule II medications are drugs with a high potential for abuse. These medications may lead to psychological or physical dependence. This dashboard presents data on:
- Individuals receiving Schedule II Opioid prescriptions
- Number of Schedule II Opioid Prescriptions and solid quantities dispensed
- Individuals with Activity of Concern

About Prescription Drug Monitoring in Massachusetts
The Prescription Monitoring Program is a part of the Massachusetts Drug Control Program database. It serves as a data warehouse for all federal (and specified state) prescriptions dispensed in the state and to residents from out of state mail order pharmacies.
Examining data from the Prescription Monitoring Program allows for the evaluation of trends to measure if initiatives are effective or may need to be modified. These data also inform critical discussions about opioid prescribing and provide an important baseline to better inform future policy decisions.
