Table of Contents
WHEREAS, On January 12, 2010, a massive earthquake struck the nation of Haiti, causing catastrophic damage to the country;
WHEREAS, it has been reported that more than 150,000 people have died and several thousands of people have been reported injured as a result of the earthquake which registered 7.0 in magnitude;
WHEREAS, international search teams continue to look for survivors;
WHEREAS, many employees of the Commonwealth and, their families continue to hope for encouraging information regarding relatives, friends and loved ones injured or lost in the earthquake;
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Deval L. Patrick, Governor of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, by virtue of the authority vested in me by the Constitution, Part 2, c. 2, §, Art. I, do hereby establish a catastrophic leave donation program to support Commonwealth employees impacted by the tragedy in Haiti.
1. Commonwealth employees may donate earned vacation and personal leave to co-workers, who have relatives in Haiti, for the purpose of travel to the country of Haiti, or to care for family members impacted by the recent tragedy in Haiti.
2. The State Human Resources Division shall develop guidelines for the donation of such accrued leave time.
3. The availability and use of leave time from the leave bank by any employee will be subject to the consent and conditions of the employee's agency or division head.
4. This Executive Order shall take effect immediately and shall continue in effect until amended, superseded or revoked by subsequent Executive Order.
