- Go to MyMassGov
- Select the type of account type you're using- Personal or Business
- When you get to the login screen where you would normally enter your email and password, click on the ‘Forgot password’ link
- On the next screen, enter the email address you created your account with
- Select ‘SEND VERIFICATION CODE'
NOTE: Keep the tab to the MyMassGov page open, as you will need to come back to it to enter the code
- Check the email address you entered for a message containing a one-time verification code.
- Enter or copy the code into the ‘VERIFY CODE’ box on the MyMassGov page
- Click 'VERIFY'
If you don't receive an email with the verification code:
- Check your email spam folder for the message
- If you have more than one email address, make sure you're looking for the message in the right one. The message will be sent to address you used to log in to your account.
- Check to make sure that you entered the email address correctly. If you made a typing mistake, the message with the code won’t reach your email and you’ll need to start the account creation process again (see step 1).
- If you are still haven’t received a code after taking steps 1-4, check that you are in the account verification screen, not a multifactor authentication (MFA) screen. Verification codes are sent by email after entering your email address when you create an account, log in, or reset your password. Authentication codes are sent by your authenticator app when you log in, and set up or change MFA settings.
If you enter the code and it doesn’t work:
- Check to make sure that you typed it in correctly
- Each code is good for 5 minutes. If you wait longer than 5 minutes to enter it, it won't work, and you will need to select 'Get a new code' to get and enter a new code.
- If you requested a code more than once, check to make sure that you’re entering the latest one you received
- Enter a new password that meets all of these requirements:
- Must be between 8 and 64 characters
- Must meet at least three additional requirements:
- Contain a special character (e.g., @ # $ % ^ & *)
- Contain a number
- Contain an uppercase character
- Contain a lowercase character
Re-enter your password to confirm it
- Click ‘CONTINUE’
You will use the new password you created the next time you log in.
