What you need

Follow these steps to update your name in your MyMassGov account. 

You will need access to the email address in your account, as well as either the authenticator app or phone number used for your MFA. 

After you update your name in the MyMassGov portal, you may need to update it with other services and applications. Check the list of services and applications that update information from MyMassGov

Changing your name in your MyMassGov account is not the same as changing it legally. Learn more about how to legally change your name through the Courts

How to change

  1. Log in to MyMassGov
  2. Access your account settings by selecting the link with your email address in the upper right corner.
  3. Select "Account settings."
  4. Select the "Edit" button next to your name. 
    1. You may need to enter a verification code to edit your account settings. 
  5. Enter the first and last names you want to use in your account.  
  6. Select "Save." 
    1. A confirmation will load on the "Account Settings" page when your change has been successfully completed.
    2. You’ll receive an email confirming that the name in your account has been updated.

Next steps

Update your name in other services

MyMassGov doesn’t automatically update other applications you may use. You will need to login to other applications through MyMassGov to update your personal information such as a phone number, email address, or street address. Check the list of services and applications that update information from MyMassGov
