Multifactor authentication (MFA) for MyMassGov

When you use MyMassGov to access state services, you'll be asked to set up MFA. Setting up MFA when you register for a MyMassGov account keeps your account information more secure.

How MFA protects your information in MyMassGov

Multifactor authentication is a method of securing your online accounts. It protects your information by requiring more than just your password when you log into an account. This way, even if someone does get your password, they don't have everything they would need to log in. MFA codes change frequently, so each time you log in, you'll need to request or retrieve a new code.

MyMassGov asks you to set up your MFA when you create an account, or the first time you login after creating one. You can set up to receive your MFA codes through an authenticator app or by text, or phone at up to two different phone numbers. We strongly recommend using at least two methods, and including at least one phone number in your account.
