WHEREAS, The fact has been brought to my attention that many individuals have sustained the loss of licenses, permits or certificates of registration issued by the Common- wealth, its agencies and political sub-divisions resulting from the hurricane of August 31, 1954, and
WHEREAS, the replacement of these licenses, permits and certificates of registration would ordinarily call for the payment of a fee, and
WHEREAS, this added burden should be spared to those who have been so heavily stricken by the disaster,
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Christian A. Herter, Governor of the Commonwealth, acting under section 4 and section 7, paragraph (o), Chapter 639 of Acts of 1950 as amended, hereby instruct the various state agencies, as well as the officers of the cities and towns in the devastated areas, that they are empowered by this Executive Order to re- issue licenses, permits and certificates of registration to those individuals, who can satisfy respective issuing officers that they have lost the same by virtue of the hurricane, without payment of the fee which would normally be chargeable for such re-issuance by statute, ordinance, or regulation.
GIVEN at the Executive Chamber in Boston, this third day of September, in the year of our Lord one thousand nine hundred and fifty-four, and of the Independence of the United States of America, the one hundred and seventy-ninth.
By His Excellency the Governor,
Christian A. Herter
