Tick-borne disease surveillance summaries and data

Health care providers can view various surveillance summaries and data regarding tick-borne diseases.

The Massachusetts Department of Public Health (DPH) conducts ongoing surveillance of several tick-borne diseases, including:

  • Babesiosis
  • Human granulocytic anaplasmosis (HGA)
  • Borrelia miyamotoi
  • Powassan virus
  • Lyme disease

The Tickborne Diseases 10-Year Morbidity Report, below, gives an overview of incidence of tickborne disease in Massachusetts.

1Data are current as of 08/01/2025 and include yearly case counts through 07/31/2025. Data are preliminary and subject to change. 
22015 data include confirmed and probable cases defined by specific combinations of laboratory and clinical data obtained during intensive public health follow-up. 2016-2021 data include confirmed and probable cases reported by healthcare providers but without active public health follow-up, resulting in very few patients with sufficient information to record as cases. 2022-2025 data include probable cases recorded following the implementation of a new, laboratory-only set of case criteria.
