Table of Contents
WHEREAS, medical officers qualified for service with the armed forces of the United States are essential to the effective prosecution of the war; and
WHEREAS, the education of students of medicine complete two years of study in a legally chartered medical school under the above mentioned plan before becoming twenty-one years of age; and
WHEREAS, General Laws (Ter. Ed.) chapter 112, section 9A, requires that applicants for registration as assistants in medicine shall furnish the Board of Registration in Medicine with satisfactory proof that they are twenty-one years of age or over; and
WHEREAS, the War Manpower Commission, acting through the Chairman of its Massachusetts State Committee, has requested that medical students fulfilling all requirements other than that as to age be made eligible for registration as assistants in medicine under General Laws (Ter. Ed.) chapter 112, section 9A, in order to expedite their availability as medical officers qualified for service with the armed forces of the United States;
NOW, THEREFORE, I, LEVERETT SALTONSTALL, Governor of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, acting under the provisions of Acts of 1941, chapter 719, as amended by Acts of 1943, chapter 3, Acts of 1942, chapter 13, sections 2 and 3, and all other authority vested in me, do hereby issue this order as a measure necessary and expedient for meeting the supreme emergency of the existing state of war between the United States and certain foreign countries.
The Board of Registration in Medicine is hereby authorized to register as an assistant in medicine an applicant for such registration who fulfills all the requirements of General Laws (Ter. Ed.) chapter 112, section 9A, other than the requirement as to age; but such applicant shall furnish the Board with satisfactory proof that he is twenty years of age or over. All provisions of law applicable to a person registered under General Laws (Ter. Ed.) chapter 112, section 9A, as an assistant in medicine shall be applicable to a person registered as such an assistant under the authority of this order.
The provisions of General Laws (Ter. Ed.) chapter 112, section 9A, shall be inoperative during the effective period of this order only to the extent that such provisions are inconsistent with this order.
