Violent Crime

The policy briefs provided below seek to increase public awareness of the nature and prevalence of violent crime by analyzing data over a 25-year period. The four major offense classifications that are used to measure violent crime are murder, forcible rape, robbery, and aggravated assault. These classifications are based upon the Massachusetts Department of State Police Crime Reporting Unit's Massachusetts Part I Offense Data Uniform Crime Report Codebook

Property Crime

The policy briefs provided below seeks to increase public awareness of the prevalence of property crime in the Commonwealth by analyzing data over a 25-year period. The three major offense classifications that are used to measure property crime are burglary, larceny, and motor vehicle theft. These classifications are based upon the Massachusetts Department of State Police Crime Reporting Unit's Massachusetts Part I Offense Data Uniform Crime Report Codebook.
